A Message from Superintendent Rice

Dear Students and Parents,

As we continue to focus on providing a safe, secure, and productive learning environment, the Herreid School District will implement a technology change beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.

Personal computers and laptops will no longer be permitted for student use during the school day. All students will be required to use a school-issued device for classroom instruction and school-related activities.

This decision has been made to better protect students and support their learning. By utilizing district-issued devices, Herreid School can maintain appropriate internet filtering, monitor online activity in accordance with school policies, ensure student data security, and provide a more consistent educational experience for all students.

While personal devices offer flexibility, they often limit our ability to effectively manage access to websites, applications, and content that may distract from learning or fall outside of school guidelines. School-issued devices allow us to better safeguard students while ensuring technology remains a valuable educational tool.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement this change. Our goal is to create an environment where students can focus on learning while using technology safely and responsibly.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact the Herreid School office.  Thank you for your continued support of Herreid School and our students.

 Sincerely,

Tom Rice

Superintendent/PK–12 Principal
